The Importance of Parts Provenance in Aerospace
A large US based aircraft equipment manufacturer with a multi-billion dollar used and refurbished parts business realized that including parts provenance data with the parts they produce, refurbish, maintain and sell would add significant value to those parts and increase their value in the marketplace.
Aerospace parts generally have a very long lifespan; over their lifetime parts can be installed on 4 to 5 different aircraft and be in service for 15 to 20 years. Ensuring a secure connection between a part and the digital ledger in a harsh environment over that length of time would require a robust and damage resistant solution.
