The French organization Unifab has published its 2015 report on the links between counterfeiting and terrorism around the world. The reports outlines that those behind the Paris terrorist attacks of January 7th,8th and 9th, 2015, “lived from drug trafficking, but also and particularly, from the sale of counterfeit products, including Nike trainers.” This should be a wake up call to anyone who thinks counterfeiting only affects companies who have their IP stolen.
The Union des Fabricants was created by a group of pharmaceutical manufacturers at the end of the nineteenth century, when they realised that their products were being counterfeited in Germany. In 1875, they decided to take action, and gathered together to create the “Charter of the Union des Fabricants”.
